What do i need to declare to OR?

Hi all,

I'm in the Forces and will be going away for 2 months soon and i will get an extra allowance for going away.

It will be around £400 a month extra but my tax code will stay the same and its not a change in wages just an added extra.

Do i need to tell my OR about this or can i keep it?

Regards

Tell them about everything and they will decide. Of course if you happen to need a new cooker, car repairs etc etc at the same time they may well allow you to keep some of it. I did and they allowed me to keep what I needed, I had to provide receipts for the car repairs however and send them what was left. If you can justify that you need this extra money because of extra expenditure while away, then explain that.

It's far better to tell them of everything, change of salary, windfalls, bonuses, tax rebates etc than get into major trouble when they spot it on your bank statement/payslip. Just because it's not taxed doesn't mean you don't have to let them know.

Assuming you have an IPA, once you are discharged then you still need to tell them about changes in income, but not one-off windfalls, eg bonuses, lottery wins any more.

Easy rule. Declare EVERYTHING!!!! You don't want a Bankruptcy Restriction Order for 15 years. Also if they know you have failed to declare any extras they will triple check everything and may go through your original SOA with you again.

You don't mess with the OR.
