New job

Hello,

This is just a quick question for any brokers, or anybody in the know.

If one half of a joint mortgage application has just started a new job, is there any point in approaching a broker or is it a waste of time? And if so at which point is it best to approach one?

Thank you

Jack

The new job needs to be considered but is by no means a barrier in itself.

  • Thanks amnblog, just what I needed to hear
  • I've been in my job for 3 months, my self and my partner have just received a mortgage offer. I checked with the lender first to see if just starting a job would be a problem and they said no

From having spoken to a colleague who just started at the company at the beginning of the year and applying for mortgages with his partner, I can tell you that some lenders may be wary and would like the applicant to be past the probation period (if there is one) in their new employment.

From my experience with a whole of market broker, they will try and help but will also be wary as they will be justifying parts of your mortgage application and how you intend to realistically pay it off based on your current and immediate future circumstances.
  • Thanks for the input guys, sounds reassuring, we will be approaching a broker in the next couple of weeks and see how it goes
