Mortgage statement Lloyds on line and C&G £10,000 different!

I have discovered that my Lloyds on line mortgage statement is £10,000 different to my C&G mortgage provider, who are in fact Lloyds.
Due to serious ill health, some years back we started making regular over-payments to help reduce the endowment shortfall we knew we would be facing. I did not want to leave my wife with extra worry once I'm gone.
We made an over-payment amounting to nearly £10,000 (matured endowments), which was credited and then instantly taken out again and disappeared. Our on line mortgage account continues to show a difference to C&G's and they say we owe more than is stated. They have even admitted in writing that there is an ongoing problem with their on-line accounts.
We have been planning our finances on the balance shown. A Lloyds bank mortgage adviser can see the problem but C&G can not.
Where do we go from here and what if any, recompense am I likely to expect. If we owe the money that's fine but we will now have to plan for something unexpected.
