Need ideas on how to find a missing parent...

He's bought himself out of the company where he was a director and sold his house.

I've tried the phone directories - his name is far too common for a reliable hit but his wife still uses her former name which is a tad unusual.

They're not on facebook and I'm not aware of any formerly mutual friends that are still in touch.

There's no way his family would provide any info to me.

My only possible lead is linkedin but I don't want him to know that I'm looking for him (IIRC linked in send you an e-mail telling you that people have viewed your profile?).

Do I now have to resort to a tracing service? Or has anyone got any bright ideas that I can rule out first?

Fingers crossed.

I use linked in and have never received an email saying someone is viewing my profile on there or anything. Could you make up a fake profile if you are worried on it so he wouldnt know it would you?

I had 2 strokes of luck with he NRP in my case - 10 years ago I googled his name and it came up that he was selling his boat and included a mobile number so I spoke to him then briefly. I now need to contact him again and by pure fluke a women who goes to a slimming club I use added me as Facebook and has him as a friend! So I googled his name and her place of work (as i know he previous worked there) and low and behold, he came up! I can now wrote to him at his work address about agreeing a private agreement before our case closes in Feb!

My only advice is to keep at it - make a fake Facebook profile and look through all mutual friends to see if they have him listed or his wife), google, google and google some more.

Or hire a PI but that would come at a price..

Also, do you know for 100% certain where his parents live? If so, write to him, care of their address.

I can't believe it didn't occur to me to just use a disposable e-mail addy for linkedin! I'll get on that in a moment. Thank you for that idea. Had no joy with FB though which didn't surprise me as I know they're both strongly opposed to social media. And being a couple of hundred miles away means finding new mutual aquaintances is unlikely.

I'm 99% certain of his parents' address so, if all else fails, that'll have to do. I can actually find plenty of google hits for him but all at his previous companies. He may well be on 'garden leave' following the buy out so I'm not likely to find any new hits for another few months - assuming he hasn't opted for early retirement.

    Thank you :)

Go to the house he sold, pretend to the new people that you are an old friend who has come to pay a surprise visit. Act upset that he is not there- they may have a forwarding address for his mail or an idea of where he has gone.

Have tried to find the wife, no joy. Unfortunately she's retired and was self employed anyway. The old house is 200+ miles away so would be some effort to visit in person.

Did suggest to my lad that he called in when he was passing en route to somewhere else but train times meant he didn't have time. Probably a good thing as I didn't know then that they'd moved and he would have been gutted to turn up and find his dad hadn't bothered to mention it!

Have you tried 192.com? You can do a very quick search for free if you have an idea of where they may live or unusual names can be searched alone (eg there are 7 people in the UK with the same name as me, none with the same middle initial) To get full details you would need to buy credits. HTH

Tried 192, the only records with her name are at the last address. His name is almost as common as smith and he could literally have moved anywhere in the country for his profession, or taken early retirement and moved somewhere else in the EU.
