Oversized bedding

My DD is off to Uni, and we've just been informed that she will have an "oversized single" bed in her room, which means the bed is 7' long rather than 6'3".
Specialist bedding seems very pricey (even from the Uni shop) so I was wondering if we'd get away with standard size? Anyone know? I think the duvet will be fine, she's only little (!) but would standard fitted sheets stretch that extra few inches, or do you think flat sheets would work?
I'm loathed to spend a lot extra, I had hoped she could just take some from home.

I highly doubt that either a UK single fitted sheet, or a Euro single size which are 6'6" by 3' wide will stretch to fit on a 7' long single mattress.
I think you'll have to buy them from someone like this:- http://www.victorialinen.co.uk/bespoke-bedding/Custom-Bedding/Custom_Fitted_Sheets
or
http://www.thebigbedcompany.co.uk/content/en/big-beds-bed-linen.aspx?folderguid=B5FBE03D-2C33-4A01-885A-2F3F5A427719
And I see what you mean about them being expensive! Ouch!
Some cheaper ones here on Ebay:- http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/like/380880691873?hlpht=true&hlpv=2&rlsatarget=&adtype=pla&ff3=1&lpid=122&poi=&ul_noapp=true&limghlpsr=true&device=c&chn=ps&crdt=0&ff12=67&ff11=ICEP3.0.0-L&ff14=122&viphx=1&ops=true&ff13=80
Can't vouch for any of them, but best of luck with finding something.0 -
Thanks.
Isn't it ridiculous? Students aren't made of money!0 -
I would just buy a cheap double flat sheet and tuck whats left under the mattress.I’m a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Competitions Time, Shopping & Freebies boards, Employment, Jobseeking & Training boards If you need any help on these boards, do let me know. IKEA do them, or try ebay (e.g. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/IKEA-DVALA-BLACK-SINGLE-BED-EXTRA-LONG-FITTED-SHEETS-x-2-/221854015973?hash=item33a787a1e50

The IKEA ones aren't long enough, but thanks.0 -
In my opinion they would stretch no problem to fit the longer bed, so long as the mattress is not a deep one. When you say oversize single bed, that to me, when I had one, meant the width was 6" wider but was not any longer than a normal sized single bed.
I buy the stretch fitted sheets as I have a deep 3/4 mattress in my spare room, and can honestly say the single sheet stretches to fit the 3/4 wide bed. I buy them from Lid1's and even one time got a fantastically fleecy one which doesn't stretch as much , but some, bought the double for my bed.
In the winter its hardly off, washed before it goes back on - its just sooooo cosy. Watch out for them because I can't wait till they sell them again, will keep your daughter nice and snug in winter months.:)Always have 00.00 at the end of your mortgage and one day it will all be 0's :dance:MF[STRIKE] March 2030[/STRIKE] Yes that does say 2030  Mortgage Free 21.12.18 _party_Now a Part Timer from 27.10.190 -
I'd just use regular sheets - if she's little her feet won't ever reach the end - and if it bothers her then she can use another one folded and wrapped round the end that's only changed once a term.0

The bed is 7ft.
Thanks for all the suggestions.0
