Credit card application impact on mortgage chances

We will be moving house within the next six months and have a question regarding applying for a credit card in the run up to a new mortgage application. My husband will be submitting a mortgage application in his name only as I am not currently working. We want to apply for a specific Amex card that comes with various bonuses. If I applied for the card in my name will it affect my husbands chances of getting a mortgage? I.e. will mortgage providers look at my credit history when considering his application?

The choice of lender will be quite limited with only your husband on the mortgage. Most lenders expect husband and wife to apply jointly, irrespective of employment status.

Personally, I wouldn't submit any credit applications 6 months or less from a potential mortgage application. Is it essential to apply for this specific card now?

Do you have anything associating you financially, such as a joint mortgage now, joint current account etc?

If you do, your credit histories are linked.

If you've no income i.e. job. Will Amex accept your application?

Your line of thinking comes up quite often.

Over 60 years ago, non working wives were encouraged to become joint owners with their husbands. Amongst other things, it stopped the husbands doing stupid things with the property such as put it up as collateral for dodgy business deals, as well as being emancipatory.

Why are things going backwards and why are so many women happy not to be joint owners?
