    If you have plenty to live on for the rest of your life then everything looks rosy.

    I think the point about equities is that you don't want to be a forced seller, but having several years spending in cash should mean that any crash can be ridden out.

    I'd be more worried about a property crash rather than an equity crash, though property values do seem to be protected from a political perspective.

    Yes, I definitely want to avoid a property price correction, and that is why I will be selling in just a few years. Not because I will lose, but because it would make stay in the market until prices recovered, and I don't want to be hassled being a landlord well into my 70's, hence my decision to sell in my early 60's. I've been a landlord now for over 24 years, so I've just about had enough of it now. The other side of the coin is that they produce a very good income, which can't be matched by dividend income (partly due to the capital gains tax bill), but I have to sell sometime in order to spend the equity, I don't want to be the richest person in the graveyard.
