Npower letter code 'MOVIN'

Hi all. Just wondering if anyone has had a letter from NPower with their letter code 'MOVIN', stating that "Npower wrote to you recently... and you've automatically become an npower customer under what's called a 'deemed contract'".
I'm assuming this is a scam to try and get us to switch over. We've always had our gas through British Gas and our electric through Eon, and have had nothing from either of these about a switch. Also the fact that the letter is just addressed to the building rather than one or other of the two individual flats within the house.
Anyone else? Thoughts?

It is unlikely to be a scam. It is more likely to be a mistake. (A "deemed contract" exists when someone first moves into a property and uses energy before arranging a supplier. You would never transfer onto a deemed account.)
Could there be any communal supply to the building (e.g. for a common entrance, garden lighting, garages etc), not covered by either of the individual flats? If not could the letter be for the other flat?
If you are certain npower are not supplying energy to the building I suggest you send them a letter demanding they stop billing you.0 -

Good luck with that. Npower suffer from corporate stupidity.0 -
Back around the year 2000, when Norweb was becoming a thing of the past, we were "stolen" by Virgin Energy without our permission. We got a letter from our "Supplier" Scottish Power saying they were sorry to be losing us. As we "knew" our supplier was not Scottish Power but rather Norweb we ignored it. Scottish Power (which was in fact our supplier, we hadn't realised we had become their clients with the demise of Norweb) stopped taking their direct debit but of course we had not set up a direct debit with Virgin. This mess caused us eventually to have years and years of problems. Although not quite the same situation, I urge you to contact npower by recorded delivery letter to point out their mistake as soon as you can.“And all shall be well. And all shall be well. And all manner of things shall be exceeding well.”

Please post a legible image of the letter you have received (having removed your personal information like your address)
As you live in a block of flats/converted house are you certain that the meters used for your bills actually relates to the meters that are supplying your flat?
Has anyone moved in/out of a flat in your complex recently?0 -
First thing to do is talk to the occupants of the only other flat in the building, who may (or may not) have switched). No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Thanks all. It's only a two-flat house, upstairs and downstairs, so there's no communal areas that we could have overlooked. So definitely worth speaking to the guys upstairs and then ringing NPower. We've been living there since January and the guys upstairs have been there longer than us, so unless upstairs have switched supplier it has to be a mistake.0

If you ring npower then ideally record the call. Alternatively follow up your call with an email setting out what was agreed. It may well come in useful having a permanent record of what was said.
Do not underestimate npower's ability to make a mess of the simplest tasks.0 -

Hello chilli_green,
Thanks for your post, the letter would be issued if you've moved into a property and inherited npower as the supplier.
If you can contact us using the email address on our profile page with your address details I’ll investigate the letter further. Please mark the email for my attention
Thanks

I too have received one of these spurious letters today, addressed to "The Occupier".
Should I just ignore it?
I've owned the house since it was built in the 90s, never used nPower, never sublet it, so zero chance someone "moved in" two years ago.

No, do not ignore it, or you may find you are the victim of an erroneous transfer. Contact nPower. No free lunch, and no free laptop0
