Need some advice now.

So I start a new job tomorrow. I've been informed the lady who will be training me (the lady i'm replacing) will be in at 9 but i've not been told when I should arrive. I messaged them this morning asking for this information but I've had no response at all, i'm messaging instead of calling as last time i called out of the blue he was busy on his way to a meeting so I don't want to seem pushy or like a pest but I start tomorrow and I've no idea what time to be there... Should I call? I'm really eager to get started as I've left my other job for this one and it seems their contact is somewhat lacking A LOT. Any help will be greatly appreciated. I can't make up my own mind.

I'd get there for 8.15am. Allows for time incase you can't find the right department etc. also take a bottle of water to sit and drink so you don't feel like a spare part while waiting is what I normally do when going to things.

    Good luck!

  • You are in danger of appearing needy if you keep on texting.

The person training you will be in at 9am so just aim to be in for 08:45.

if you want to draw a line under this then just send one last text saying that you are looking forward to seeing them tomorrow and will be in at 0900 unless you hear otherwise.
  • The thing is they have none of my information. They haven't seen my passport/national insurance number they haven't got my bank information, I know most likely this should be taken care of on the first day but it would be nice of them to let me know what I should wear, when would be appropriate to arrive and if they need any information from me that I bring it along.

Just feel a bit uneasy but I will definitely get there before 9 and hopefully all questions should be answered.

Also not sure if they wanted me there a little later so the woman who is training me can prepare.

I have sent 3 texts to this person.. one was about when they'd like me to call as they wanted to offer me the position.

The second was about receiving a job offer so I can hand in my notice... this will be the third. I don't think it's excessive and everything I have asked is completely relevant and is information I need to know before I start.

Just ring and ask. Even if the person is on their way to a meeting, it will take them 5 seconds to respond '9:00am/9:30am is fine. See you tomorrow!'.

As to what you should wear, what kind of job it is? Office job/factory worker/waitress/bar staff? Surely it can't be too difficult to work out what type of clothing is appropriate.
    :p
  • It's a receptionist position but I'll be working with animals and the other members of staff have their uniform obviously... As I'm new I don't have one.

Same goes for a text though doesn't it? I think I'll leave it alone and just get there for the time the trainer will arrive. Hopefully that's what they want me to do.

    Yes get there for 9.

As for what to wear, Id wear something decent for the a receptionist role, if they need you to work the animals maybe they would have a spare uniform or something you could use. Take your passport, NI number and bank account details in case they ask or you could mention you have brought them with you.
  • This seems to be the best thing to do. If they wanted me in later I'd assume they would have told me...Thanks

You are over thinking it. They probably don't care that much what time you arrive and that is why they haven't given you a time. 9am is reasonable, just say when you get there that you assume that was the right time to get there but that you assume they will let you know what time they want you to start from then on. Relax!
