Just had a call from this number (02035986023). They were allegedly calling from Euro Millions, and told me of how I'd entered a competition and had won 10 free entries into the draw (I think on Friday, but not 100% sure as quite difficult to make out).

Of course, that was just before they came to the hard sell bit of the call (the real reason as to why they were calling)...Some Euro Millions syndicate thing where they claimed that if I signed up they would reimburse any losses, though I think they said something about I could claim any losses back from them. But as per usual, there was some mention of not being tied in as I could cancel after some time in September. Though tbh between being difficult to make out what was being said and the fact I'd lost interest as I suspected a scam, I was no longer interested. They though became quite pushy sounding when I said I wasn't interested in signing up to anything, so didn't take long before I pressed the call end button.

I have since googled the phone number and from whocallsme.co.uk, it definitely looks like a scam.

Just thought that I'd also post here as I know in the past I have entered comps for tickets in Euro Millions, but couldn't remember having done so that recently. Oh, and the fact that they did seem to have my name, full postal address, and the email which I use for comping.

I also use a dedicated payg mobile for comping use as when I started comping I was bothered in case it would result in loads of calls just like this one, though tbh I don't usually get many calls on the "comping" mobile.

Anyway, thought I'd post in case it has came through some comp I've recently entered and others are getting the same phonecall.

  • I've had the call before to say I entered to win an IPhone and another time to win the IPad they have called my house phone and mobile and the woman is really pushy, the man isn't so pushy. I have had the call 3 on my mobile and once house phone. Normally they would say that you entered to win the comp to win this or this a choice between the both and then go on about the syndicate. They seem to be phoning from quite a few different numbers now.
  • They normally go on to say you have reached the quarter or semi finals in a draw too.

Thanks to caller display, house phone wouldn't get answered if they tried there as I usually only pick it up if it's a number I know. My view is if it's important, they can leave a message and I can phone back, but most numbers I don't know or are number withheld or from overseas are trying to sell something or some sort of scam.
And I do the same on my main mobile - usually only answer if it's someone I know.

pita though if they are using quite a few different numbers to phone from - not so easy to block.

But it was with them having my postal address, comping email and having phoned my comping mobile that caused me to wonder if it could have came from some comp.
  • What if it's a comp win their policy won't allow them to leave a voice message.

I always steer well clear of these "Win 10 entries in the Euromillions" type competitions, they just scream "sell your info" ... "scam" etc etc ... unless it's from the official National Lottery site, but they never are.

The only phone number I use when entering competitions is the payg mobile number. That way I feel quite safe to ignore phonecalls that I suspect to be junk on the home phone or main mobile.
The payg mobile I use when entering competitions I do tend to answer, though tbh don't tend to get many calls on that number anyway.
