Council tax start date?

Hello guys,

I'm in the process of buying a house. I am a little confused as to when I should sort out the council tax, I will be in line for a 25% discount.

Does it legally need to be sorted for the day I own the property or are you given some slack to sort it out?

Thanks!

edit: !!!!!! I think I've posted this in the wrong section!

some councils say from the day you complete, even if empty
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

Well you can take some slack yourself to sort it out but it will still be payable from the day you complete.

Yeah just call them up and let them know the date you've moved in and they'll sort out the payments accordingly.

Ok many thanks guys! I won't be technically moved in until a couple of months from now but I the completion date will be within the next 3 weeks so I will get it going from then.
