Benenden Health Care

I received unsolicited mail from this company. I have never contacted them and have no intention of ever using their services, I have no idea how they got my name and address.

In their letter they have given me a membership number, I spoke to their operative on a 'membership line' and told them is an unacceptable practice, I am not a member and have no association with them.

Further It seems they have me on their computer system as the operative had a computer record to look at.

What is the best and most forceful way to get my name off their records,

I'm sure they are breaking data protection rules at the very least and it might even be a scam.

Anyone else had any dealings?

I have been a member of Benenden for many years, they are a reputable company.
Initially membership was only open to people such as civil servants and Post Office employees, in fact it was called the Post Office and Civil service Sanatorium Society.
In recent years it has opened out to everyone so I assume (but do not know) that their marketing strategy may have changed.

    I've been Money Tipped!
I have also been a Benenden member for years. They are now widening their membership which was restricted to some public sector workers. It's a very reputable organisation with an extremely reasonable membership fee. One to definitely consider if you think you might ever benefit from private healthcare.

Thanks guys, that gives me peace of mind and makes me believe that my complaint will be addressed properly.

I still have little idea who sold them my name and address without my permission. I've asked the question, maybe I'll get an answer, I'm beginning to suspect it is my ex-works pension scheme (GEC/Marconi as was) :)

I did notice that the membership T&C's have a charitable assignment agreement to prevent speculators joining in hope of collecting a windfall if the company de-mutalises, Coventry Building Society has a similar thing, which is a good thing as far as I'm concerned.
