Hi, always lurk, don't often post, but could do with your advice/ideas on cleaning the kitchen tiles behind the cooker. Need something to get rid of grease. Have tried all sorts of stuff (cilit bang etc) and nothing gets rid of it totally. What do other people use?

Thanks for this, I am off work for the next 2 weeks and want to try and give the give the house a good clean. With 2 asthmatics in the house am looking for stuff with not many fumes given off, so will try the baking soda. Can I ask what quantities and ratio etc. cheers0

If it's caked on, use a single sided blade to scrape it off0
-
If the tiles are in good condition then sugar soap will work.0

Fairy liquid is also good for grease and shouldn't cause too many problems for asthma. You can apply dry bicarb and then scrub with a damp cloth then rinse away with hot soapy water. Finish off with vinegar.0

warm a cup of vinegar either in the microwave or in a pot, put it in a spray bottle, add half a cup of bicarb, swish the bottle around, dont shake though, and spray all over the tiles, leave it for 10 minutes or so and the grease should just wipe away with a warm soapy sponge0

Washing soda dissolved in hot water is a good degreaser.0

My OH as a decorator says Sugar Soap should do the trick every time.
Myself I have been know to use oven cleaning spray, but maybe not if you have asthmatics in the house.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Borax (or the more commonly found these days borax substitute) with some hot water is excellent for this kind of tacky grease. With a little scrubbing, it just emulsifies in seconds and can be wiped away. Even the heavy grease from using a chip pan. Completely asthma safe too, it doesn't emit anything in to the air.0
