Company dealing with Barclays won't accept my payment plan...

Got into debt with barclays (about 2 grand), but was kicked out of flat. Finally got in touch with them (the company who barclay sold the debt to), and they won't accept my minimum offer of £20 now, more in the future, simply because they say they've sent it to a "doorstop agent".
since i have no permant place of abode at the moment (which i also explained), i'm not sure whose door they expect to knock on

What is a doorstop agent though?
And why won't they deal with me over the phone, even after I've told them i no longer live at that address and have no fixed abode (which is the truth)?
Here I am, trying to offer a deal, and they are being bullish with me. What are my rights?0 -
A 'doorstep agent' is a term for a debt collector - but there is no need to worry unduly.
It is 'par for the course' for debt collection agencies to 'reject' your first offer - they are, in effect, trying to show their teeth.
I had similar problems with Barclaycard, and they passed my debt to MERCERS, who were particulrly odious on the phone. They threatened, on several occasions, to send round 'doorstep collectors' but never did.
If you put your offer, of £20 per month, in writing - you will find some excellent template letters on the National Debtline site:

Send a copy to the DCA AND to BARCLAYCARD Customer Services. Make the payment, and keep making the payment on a regular basis, and they will, gradually, get off of your back.I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

Am currently having a true nightmare time with Barclaycard-it originates from their 'referral' of a debt I was disputing under Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act to 'Mercers'. They were vile. It was only last year that I found out that Mercers was Barclaycard all along.0
