Nationwide mortgage nightmare

Is anyone else having the same nightmare with nationwide mortgages?
We originally applied for our mortgage in May 2015 and have been messed around to ridiculous degrees!
Nationwide have requested different pieces of paperwork and everytime we put the paperwork back in we are told it will be another week until we hear. The house we are buying has been valued by them and we have paid for the mortgage, we have been told the mortgage has been accepted yet will have still not received an offer!
We got an email last week to say that the mortgage application was cancelled! We called, they said this was a mistake and that the offer would be issued in another week! Week later nothing! Instead another email saying they were giving us someone else to reassess the mortgage and the offer could be another 10 days!
In the mean time we have moved out of our home and are in rented in danger of losing our new home, as everything is ready to go pending this offer.
I could add we've been a mortgage customer for 12 years with nationwide and have never missed a payment, we have a large deposit and even their affordability checks have been ludicrous!
I've complained again today but I'm at the point of losing it. I've made an appointment elsewhere in case this carries on. Has anyone else had this trouble?

Not theirs it's a regulatory requirement. Which is set at certain levels for good reason. Not least to ensure that the tax lending policies of the 2003-2008 era are never repeated.0 -
Doesn't explain that even when you pass their checks, they then don't follow their own procedures and timescales.0

Every application is different. Sometimes things don't go right. As mistakes do happen. Sounds as if your application is either marginal or there's aspects that have given rise to concern. A large deposit and length of time as a customer aren't factors in determining the outcome. It's how you measure up to current lending policy.0 -
I understand that, and we went through two further interviews to get the mortgage on the terms nationwide wanted. They've accepted the application and have told us that it will now under no circumstances be rejected. What I'm querying is why, they need another month after application to move to offer? They still have not answered emails or calls, have sent us emails saying the application has been cancelled!!! Then apologised stating it was a computer error and have now sent us an email saying our application has been passed to another advisor. All this started in May. It's just incompetence and now I'm hearing rumours that nationwide wish to get rid of their good borrowers as they arnt making them any money.0

You need to make a proper complaint according to their complaint procedure.0

We tried to get a mortgage with Nationwide against my brokers advice as my husband was in fairly recent employment and when we Googled searches Nationwide came out very good for new employment. Do not Google if you are not a 'perfect Mortgage fit' go straight to a broker. We had to resubmit the same documents seven times! The branch could not have been more helpful and were arguing over the phone with the underwriters as apparently the 'w' in my husbands surname looked like a 'v' in the gift deposit form. The branch branded them as petty and gave us a hundred pounds in compensation for our trouble as they were with us constantly resubmitting the same information. My husbands passport had to be sent twice. Bank statements seven times and having to provide proof as to why there were no transactions for three days out of husbands account. We didn't include my husbands over time in the application as we thought it would ease the process but no. They wanted a full explanation of his over time. They even questioned what l and g was on my payslip. Obviously legal and general - my pension. My child benefit proof was sent three times. Even our marriage certificate had to be submitted. And they are still not happy. Please don't do it. We are going back to our original lenders - halifax.0

Had the same problems as you OP and I've posted on here about it previously.
Bottom line is make a formal complaint, either online or by letter. Everything was dealt with very swiftly after that and we had a single "go to" person rather than sending, waiting and hoping etc.0
