How can I force CSA to write off 11 yr Old Arrears Debt?

Hi Folks.
Unfortunately got entangled with CSA when PWC got greedy. All water under the bridge.
During a period between jobs in 2004 I was advised of "Postponement of Collection" for £240 arrears - seems previous employer cocked-up final payment to CSA when I was made redundant.
I am in similar position - between jobs (due to start new one in Sept :j) - & those lovely people at CSA have just advised/reminded me of this "outstanding legal debt" (their terminology).
Have just come off the phone to their collections/accounts team about other issues & reminded them a) they suspended the collection, b) asked why have they only just spotted this & c) had assumed any previous arrears had all been rounded up & cleared. I asked, as this is an aged debt due to their error that they write the debt off. CSA advised isn't possible, they don't have the powers to do that as this is "a legal debt" & have to ask the PWC :mad:
Has someone spiked my tobacco pouch or is this correct? Any advice on how to tackle this matter is much appreciated.
cheers

The CSA are correct. They can and will chase you for it and if you were to apply for state benefits they can take it direct from your benefit payment. Likewise, if/when you start work, they can apply a DEO and collect it that way.
Do you disagree that you actually owe it, or you agree, but want it written off due to length of time?0 -

Hi Shoe Diva,
have been dealing with CSA since 1999 & fully aware of how they chase & hound.
I stuck to my commitment to pay, including clearing any arrears accrued whilst they calculate re-assessments.
I believe the debt should be written of due to length of time & this debt is due to their ineptitude.0 -
So you have paid the arrears already? If so, its not a case of having the debt written off, its about proving they have already been cleared.
I have been dealing with them since 1998 so have equally as much experience as yourself and I can assure you, they wont write the debt off just because you think they should.0
