Sorry for your loss
. It's funny how people react to losing someone close - it makes you re-evaluate your life as you've seen. Some say 'sod it, live for now', but I was the same as you and chose to say 'sod this working for a living lark'. I'm sure the person you've lost would approve. And yes, it does take a long time to arrange at this time of year - hope you get things sorted quickly xx
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effortMortgage Balance = £0

Hi Firegirl,
Thanks for stopping by. I have been terrible in updating my diary!
I have been reading but just have not got around to logging in and posting. Re the mortgage I have updated my signature, we have just been making the standard payments.
2018 was an odd year, the impact of the family death has rippled out and really altered some relationships and not for the better. This has made everything seem a bit weird. More for my parents than for me but we are all quite close and hearing what is happening doesn't make me very happy. In addition DH lost his new job(!) So he spent 5 months unemployed. Our savings saw us through but it was a bit hairy at the end of that period and put us back to square one on the savings front.
He now has another job and all seems to be going well but I am being very careful this time not to commit funds to any extravagances until we have built up a bit of a cushion. Pride comes before a fall and all that.
Which is not to say we have become super savers. Finding a balance is tough. On paper we should have plenty of cash and whilst we do save and don't go overdrawn I still think there is a lot of mindless spending to be avoided.
Anyway, just to say I am plodding on and am still here reading awayCurrent mortgage as at start of diary 14.08.15 - £245,990.00

Sorry to hear about the family situation. It’s so difficult when things like this happen and families fall out. Hopefully time will pass and things will get better. I am the only family member still talking to one of my siblings. We were all so close and I still can’t believe this has happened. I lost a lot of sleep and my health took a nose dive before saying to myself, there’s nothing I can do about it. I can’t see the situation my end resolving but you just never know.
Even with 5 months reduced income you are making an amazing dent in the mortgage!
