Business registered at my address

Hi This is a weird one, my ex moved out but we've forwarded him his post via my son. He gets lots from HMRC, anyway he wanted to make a point to my son that he's registered his business and I believe that's he's registered it at my address. It's Either that or he's lying about having registered it at all as he's worried I might grass him up. He is at a non registered address atm. He only lived with me for a few months and as his financial situation Is very flaky I'm a bit concerned about this. I don't want his business registered here as it's nothing to do with me! are there repercussions for me if he's done this?

Registered you say? Do you mean a limited company? Companies House has an online directory which allows you to check for free any registered address of a limited company.

Having the business registered to your address will have no repercussions for you at all (assuming you are not part of said business) apart from you possibly being bombarded with mail that your ex is relying on you forwarding to him ... but it might have for your ex, particularly if you start returning such company mail as 'not known at this address' ;)
  • Thanks, I can't find it there but it would have only very recently been registered, and I've already decided to return any more mail I get here.
  • I was correct, a business - with a name I've never heard of has been registered at my address on Companies House Website. He is the Director.

Can't wait for all the creditors and bailiffs to turn up when he stops paying his debts, which will most certainly happen because he always stops paying his debts!

Complain. And inform him that you will be sending all posts back and also let him know to change his business address as you will be reporting.
  • Hi Well he says that the recruitment agency he's working for wanted to sign him up as a business director, something to do with how he's being paid, I didn't actually believe this but this has been confirmed by Companies House. They are going to write to the presenter of the document concerned and ask for their comments on this matter. The response they receive will determine their next course of action.

Why would a recruitment agency sign up their staff as directors?
