Why are my carrots going soft n bendy in no time?

As I live on my own, I buy loose carrots - 3 large or 4 medium at a time as I find a whole bag is too much for me. I may buy the odd bag in the winter for stews and soups.

I normally dry them off on a paper towel naturally and put them in my fridge and they last for a week.

I bought some last two weeks and they went bendy and lose their crunch within 2 days. OK for cooking, but not raw.

Why is this? I have bought them from three supermarkets and done the same thing.

Are they still in a bag or loose in the fridge.

Bagged carrots last for weeks in my fridge as they retain moisture.

Perhaps you could re-hydrate your carrots by topping, tailing and putting in a bowl of water for a while?

Have you checked the temp of your fridge? Many only go as you've described when they aren't refrigerated. I don't have any veg that is in the fridge in bags but I line my salad drawer with a layer of kitchen roll and wipe any visible moisture from the veg before placing them in there.

Keep carrots in a container of water in the fridge, I use a big jug so they're upright - they stay crunchy for absolutely ages and ages (change the water every few days).
    TOP MONEYSAVING TIP

Make your own Pot Noodles using a flower pot, sawdust and some old shoe laces. Pour in boiling water, stir then allow to stand for two minutes before taking one mouthful, and throwing away. Just like the real thing!

My carrots last at least a month in the fridge. Although obviously the longer you store vegetables, the higher the depletion of essential vitamins.

What part of the fridge are you storing them? And what else is stored nearby them? This might have a bearing on why they only last a couple of days.

That's exactly what I do. Everything is removed from packaging and placed in towel-lined salad drawers. Onions, potatoes and root veg go in one drawer and celery, peppers, garlic, lemons, limes, green veg etc go in the other one. Produce that can easily be damaged (e.g. avocado, mushrooms, bagged salad/spinach, cucumber, soft fruits etc all sit on the shelf above the salad drawers. I don't keep tomatoes in the fridge at all as this ruins the flavour.

When I buy supermarket carrots, regardless of loose or in bags they keep about a week, if I but them from my local shop they last possibly a day. We grew carrots on our farm for a supermarket and they were stored in temp controlled sheds and would last for months, potatoes would last years.
