Santander Mortgage Arrears fees letter - Need help

  • Please don't send the letter in your original post - it contains loads of quasi-legal claptrap.

As a banker myself (boo!), if I got that from a customer it would just put my back up and it would go straight to the lawyers who would put the customer straight on the points of law!

As other posters have suggested, a more diplomatic approach is more likely to be successful and result in goodwill gesture.

As a compulsive gambler myself, I notice a sense of "someone else's fault" in the way the letter/post is worded.

It was not the banks fault (or anyones for that matter) that you or I gambled. I avoid writing about how badly they treated you, you treated them badly by gambling away their owed monies.

I would definitely come at this from an unreasonable charges point, but dont expect too much sympathy. Good luck in your recovery, I hope you are going to GA Meetings.

Well done for seeking help with your gambling and getting this far with it. Recovery is obviously a day by day thing and I say this with respect:-

Your post sounds like the kind of 'high risk, poor odds situation' that you need to be steering away from.

It's not worth the few pounds they will offer you - if they did that at all, frankly. However the damage to your recovery is something that could spiral.

Put the letter in the bin and look towards your future.

    All the best.
