I'm not sure about medicines, but if your problem is mucus, try cutting down dairy and eating raspberries (which I've heard are an expectorant)

Just the fluffy, natural approach ;) Bring on the benylin ;)

Sorry to hear you're suffering....I had something similar a couple of weeks ago. Strange to be suffering in the middle of "summer"!
In this house, we use off the boil water & [usually]sugar-free blackcurrant hi-juice squash type stuff in a mug; add teaspoon of honey & a good splash of lemon juice[plastic or fresh]. When taken with a complementary dose of your favourite painkiller, you don't have to worry about accidental overdose & can adjust the ingredients to suit your own tastes. DON'T TAKE ANY MEDICATION WITH HOT DRINKS UNLESS DIRECTED!

The honey soothes the throat; lemon sorts out the gunk; & if you feel inclined a little alcoholic tipple can be included to soothe the soul;) HTH

Hear hear BigMumma, although we are not supposed to offer medical advice, I believe this isn't actually medical. A good dose of Vit C, honey and lemon drinks ( with a dash of whatever makes you feel relaxed- whiskey, rum-) Honey has natural antiviral properties which no chemical medication has yet to copy and taken as a hot drink, soothes any raw throat. Steam inhaltions will help chesty coughs, put a drop of olbas or vicks in it to open the airways and go to bed, rest, think relaxing thoughts, plenty of fluids. You wont get better any sooner, but you wont suffer as much.

I personally recommend the old Scottish cold remedy involving a bed, a hot whisky toddy and a bowler hat.

    1. Place the bowler hat at the bottom of the bed.
    2. Get into the bed.
    3. Take a sip of the hot whisky toddy.
    4. Look at the bowler hat.
    5. Repeat from step 3, until there are two hats!

Personally I like a hot honey and lemon drink (taken with paracetemol or maybe whisky :)) - melt honey in hot water and add lemon to taste. Cheap and as effective as the other stuff. Though for a cough it's def worth pushing the boat out and going for covonia.

Unfortunately though, time is the only real healer!

Inhaling steam is good for chesty coughs and blocked noses/ sinuses - especially with added eucalyptus and/or tea tree oil. Either stick your head over a bowl of hot water plus oils with a towel over your head and/ or get in the bath or shower and get the bathroom nice and steamy. I had what sounds like the same thing a couple of weeks ago and this really helped. I don't think cough mixtures did a lot to be honest! Hope you get better soon :)
