closing date for job application

I have applied for a job online which states a closing date , the closing date ends in 2 days time . I applied for the job when it was first advertised 28 days ago . It does state if you are shortlisted for interview you will be informed by email . They also state when the interview dates will be which are 5 days after the date of the closing date . I have not heard anything as yet . There is 2 days left to the closing date my question is do employers only select who they have shortlisted after the closing date ? or do you think I would have heard by now considering they have had my application for 3 weeks already ? I am out of touch with the protocol of interview selections

If you are selected for interview, it'll be after the closing date regardless of when you applied.
It's only fair to the other candidates. Don't know what I'm doing, but doing it anyway... :huh:0 -
Despite an announced closing date, some employers do decide to interview and even appoint before then if they have what appear to be ideal candidates. If they had appointed, they would take the advertisement down in order not to waste their time receiving more applications.
However, though, in order to speed things along later, they may well be reviewing applications as they come in and putting any really promising ones into a potential "invite to interview" category, most will wait until the closing date before contacting short-listed candidates.
As the advertising organisation has given a date scheduled for interviews then their process probably does mean they will write after the closing date because candidates would be aware of the interview date.0 -
Different companies work in different ways but I wouldn't be concerned that you have heard nothing before the closing date for applications. I have seen job adverts pulled, or closing dates amended, presumably because they have received enough applicants.0

If its a normal private company then I would be slightly concerned as they probably more commonly review applications fairly regularly.
For public bodies, civil service and other such places with more open recruitment policies etc then they much more commonly review in bulk after the closing date to give all candidates an equal chance.
Speed of application isnt a protected characteristic so no discrimination not to wait. Have even had people already started in the new job before the closing date has been reached in the past.0
