Train fares?

Options
Is there the remotest chance that Virgin might have a sale on their train tickets to London at the end of October???
There will always be:
A “LIE” in BELIEVE, an “OVER” in LOVER, an “END” in FRIEND, an “US” in TRUST , and an “IF” in LIFE ;)

  • They have a seat sale right now, but I think it may be only until September. I find Virgin very expensive since they took over from East Coast.

Not sure if it's any help but if you use Quidco to go via The Trainline (afaik searches all train services) you can pick up 3% cashback or 3.03% on TCB.

There are other train services which offer cashback but not Virgin. Check Ebay and Gumtree though- it sounds random I know but sometimes people will sell their tickets off if they know they can't travel though it is rare it can happen.
  • Virgin Eastcoast have put prices up ridiculously since they took the network over.2 adults and a child with family railcard could get to Edinburgh from Doncaster for £23.75 and the same price for the return so £47.50 in total by booking as far upfront as is allowed usually 3 months. Now you haven't a hope in hell of getting those kind of prices £34.75 both ways been the best price so now £69.50.The same can be said of a trip to Peterborough from Doncaster. You could get a single for £10.75 and a single back for the same price £10.75 so £21.50 in total. Now you are looking at £15.65 and £15.65=£31.30.These are ridiculous rises yet Virgin are trying to say they haven't increased prices since they took over from East Coast.Funny how when you do seem to get a bargain fare on your outward journey your return is two to three times more expensive.Typical private companies ripping everybody off.

The Trainline charges a booking fee, so it's best to go to Virgin directly. No booking fee if you go direct. The booking fee is likely to be higher than any cashback.
