New Baby OR mum2b Hamper

Options
Hey guys

My friend is pregnant and not due until march 2016 but I was thinking of putting a useful hamper together for.

I would love to get her something that's really useful, and that she will appreciate rather than just clothes etc

As im not a mother or had a baby, I have no idea what would be useful to put in.

Also, would a baby hamper good, or a mum to be hamper to give her before baby is born?

I made a nappy cake for one of my work colleagues who left to have a baby a couple of years ago - it had a real wow factor and she still talks about it even now. The things she found most useful were the baby forehead thermometer and baby nail clippers - I can't remember all the other bits and bobs I put in (I think a lot of them came from a Mothercare sale, the careful use of Tesco boost vouchers, and the pound shops) but it was stuff like nappy cream, baby bath, baby hairbrush, flannels, plastic feeding spoon/dish, vests, bibs, babygro, socks etc.

My friend did one years ago for me, in it went things like breast pads, cotton knickers, maternity pads as well as stuff for baby. She put it all in a baby layette box. Years later, i refilled it with similar stuff and passed it on to husband's cousin for her first baby.
  • I'm thinking to doing a 'new mum' hamper for a friend with things for her instead of the baby, who will get loads! Hoping to do a combination of useful items and some treats inc things she hasn't been able to eat whilst preggers.

So far I've some up with:
    Bottle of wine
    Blue cheese
    Pate
    Posh coffee
    Big bar of chocolate
    Hand cream
    Lip balm
    moisturiser
    Earplugs
    Eye mask

    Any other suggestions?

As a new mummy of ten days I think it's a lovely idea. Things which would be great is stretch mark cream (itch like hell afterwards) headache tablets and bath products. also if you were giving it after baby born I know that the things I appreciated most was thise that brought something for dinner. I gave no appetite so poor hubby is doing all the cooking so was nice to be able to put premade dinners in the oven
  • What a thoughtful idea. A lot of mums would probably have most of the baby essentials by the time the baby is born, but a new mum hamper would be such a treat (I know I would have really appreciated one..)

Depending on how close you are to your friend (!) consider including maternity pads, gentle laxatives, nipple balm if she's planning on breastfeeding and breast pads, lip balm, chocolate, stretchmark cream/oil and some sensitive bath products. And somemore chocolate... Some easy to grab snacks are always handy in the first couple of weeks.
Maybe a boxset of her favourite tv show to get her through the first growth spurts/feeding frenzies?
Living thriftily ;) most of the time
  • Thanks for the ideas! I've put paracetamol, more chocolate, and a pizza hut gift card (if I can stretch that far) on the list. Oh and some beers for Dad too!

I'll they and find out if she has nipple cream etc, she's fairly organised!
