I received a letter this morning sayin I owe £556.67 for a loan from 2003. I don't have the funds to pay them back and offered to pay £10 a month. Do they have to accept my offer? Any help would be gratefully accepted. Thanks.

No idea I'm afraid but there is a Benefits & Tax Credits forum on here. Posting the question in there may attract more responses than here as this forum is focused on retirement / pension issues.

If you have a Citizens Advice Bureau near you it would be worth seeking their help. They can often help in setting up a payment plan with the creditor. The creditor does not have to accept your offer, but may do so if they know that CAB or another advice service has looked at your financial situation and your ability to pay. CAB will probably want to know if this is a single debt, or if you are in a multiple-debt situation, where a different approach may be appropriate.
