    There's a book called 'Cooking in a Bedsitter' by Katherine Whitehorn which might help, you can get it second hand on Amazon.

    50s drinks: tea from a brown pot served in green Berol cups. Brown ale served from a barrel. Sherry (pref. British or 'Empire') Gin and 'it' (Gin and vermouth). No ice in anything (no fridges). Weak orange squash for kiddies. Very nasty cheap warmish French/Italian wine in small glasses.

    thanks for all your suggestions.

    So far, going for the following options;
    *champagne (sparkling wine) in vintage-style glasses - have some cheap ones somewhere which are perfect
    *gin and vermouth cocktails with coloured sugar rims on the glasses
    *cheese straws
    *cucumber sandwiches and fairy cakes laid out on cake stands (borrowed from my mum :D )

    I love the idea of proper invitations and will definatley do that, thanks MATH.

    ancast - your wedding sounds fab. I hope that you have an amazing day. :)

    Oh, and yes, of course you are all invited!!!!
