I wanna break free......

Hey all

In the words of the great Freddie Mercury.....I want to break free.....that's fee from my debt and from the circle of pointless spending I find myself in!

This diary is going to be full of ramblings....so if anyone does read it...thank you and I apologise in advance.

So....debt is probably at about £16700 for cards and cats (not the feline kind) plus two car loans, one bank loan and a large mortgage.

We'll start with the £16700 - that's plenty to be getting on with, all of the other stuff is pootling a along as they should.

However, my debt busting plan is on a go-slow at the moment, as I am going on holiday in 11 weeks (all paid for already) so I need to save for stuff towards my holiday and I need to replace my boiler (budgeted for September)

Plan to put half of what I make/Dave to holiday fund and half to debt.....

Need to buy some baking stuff so I can make some goodies for next week as I have relatives visiting. Also need to devise my meal plan, that's one of my many tasks for later. This week is going to be a long work week and then a weekend involving football (driving!) and housework (lots of).

Post more later - gotta get off the train.

Just a quick hello - work has been manic and a bit cr*p actually. Didn't even get to interview for a job that I should have walked into! Guess I need to reevaluate my career path now....just topped off a not great week. Will write more tomorrow - have a few hours to kill whilst waiting for an appointment.

So didn't get back on to post again - feeling a little stressed....

I have a second secured loan on my house and it's been sold to another company - no problem with that - except I went onto the online account system for new company (that's a positive as I can watch the balance decrease) and it says that I have arrears of £-1730.00.

Have no arrears on this loan as far as we know and hubby thinks it's to do with the transfer of funds between the two companies - he's going to call them tomorrow to confirm what's going on.

In-laws down tomorrow so that'll be nice....really I love my inlaws but sometimes feel that my house is not my own!

Going for a soak in the bath now - speak more later!

So today has definitely been a better day! Hubby spoke to the loan company who confirmed that we don't owe them anything other than the loan amount...so that's a weight off my mind.

In-laws are here, DMiL is already in bed, hubby and DFiL watching footie.

I haven't spent anything today - hubby paid for my petrol (he can't drive so I'm the official chauffeur), he also bought me a subway lunch....so an NSD for me! Have no money until Wednesday....well I have about 10.00 in the bank but that's hopefully going towards a debt!

Ramblings, as you call them are good. My diary is a ramble, but it's keeping me focussed.

Have you done a SOA to see what you have free to pay towards debts and to see where you are up to?

    http://www.stoozing.com/calculator/soa.php

It really helps me, and I'm doing one a month to monitor progress.

Well done on the NSD, here's to many more x

Thanks for the reply Sunshine - have done an SOA but am choosing to keep it to myself just now.

Will go and look for your diary shortly.

So - last few days haven't been great spend wise - having family down isn't great for the budget....also not helped by a handbag acquisition from River Island yesterday!

Back to work on Monday and back to money saving ways....am going to aim for 5 NSD's before the end of August and then will be back in for the challenges from the start of September. (Might poodle over and read this months threads for inspiration)

    More ramblings to come later.

So the plan for 5 NSD's is out the window - been an awful few days!

Anyway, the plan is to make an extra £600 in September - approximately £20 a day!

Plans include - seeing an old phone for approx £60, and some other bits and pieces for about £40....
market Research, surveys, mystery shopping.....and other stuff....

    Let's see how we go!

So today I have had a bit of a step forward.....

We need a new boiler, and I saw one of these adverts that mean you pay nothing up front and then pay an amount per month for a period of time. I got a quote which meant I would end up paying roughly £35 a month for boiler servicing as well as paying for the boiler....so a boiler that would cost me approx £1500 could have ended up costing me £6500!!!!!

Previously I probably would have taken the 'easy' option and done it - but today I looked into it and decided to save the £1500 instead! Only downside is I expect lots of sales calls but I can always block them!

The plan for today is to chill and relax, look into some money saving options and just generally spend the day with my family!

    Things I've achieved today :)

3 loads of washing washed, dried and folded......number 4 in the washing machine. Not very MSE having to use the dryer, but the torrential rain outside has left me little or no choice. Can't put the radiators on because of problems with the boiler so dryer is my only option.

Have done a rough meal plan for this week:

    Monday - roast
    Tuesday - pasta
    weds - stew/casserole
    Thurs - mince/tatties
fri- out with work,DH at mil, dd noodles
    Sat - sausage/mash.

Sally - good on you for thinking through the boiler cover thing. Half of beating the debt is doing just that I think instead of just blindly spending.

We had a new boiler installed around 4 years ago at the flat we own but rent out. It cost £2,400 in total, the brand is Worcester Bosch. If you look it up on Which it has excellent reviews and aside from paying for the gas safety check each year we haven't had a days worry with it. I'd highly recommend looking into one.

    Good luck with everything
