decluttering the house without a car?

Options
I have a lot of clutter I want to get rid of, can't be bothered with ebay and I have put stuff on the local buy/ sell facebook page worth anything. But how can I do a big declutter when I don't dive so would be hard for me to take a lot of bits to the charity shop/ tip/ carboot? Any ideas/ tips of how to rid my home of clutter would be grand!

I don't drive either so I offered most of mine on freegle. The good clothes I got a friend to take to a dress agency. The rest I put in the charity bags that get posted thro my door about once a week. For dishes bedding etc I offered them to friends then family.

I don't drive either. Every time I go down to town I take one bag of stuff for the charity shop.
Our council take textiles as part of the doorstep recycling so clothes that are not fit for sale go in those bags. There's a collection bin for shoes in the car park behind our local shops.
Check the charity bags that come through the door and see what they will take-some just want clothes but some will ask for shoes, bags and textiles.

Many auction houses will come and collect if there's a reasonable amount. Doesn't have to be antiques or anything - they also have general household sales.......
  • Our charity shops will come and pick up stuff, might be worth giving them a ring.
  • I took load after load after load to a charity shop, using a bag on wheels and the bus. I prefer to do things slowly and steadily.

:) I haven't had a car for 14 years and still manage to declutter. If you carry stuff into your home one bagful at a time, you can carry it out again the same way. I call it Reverse Shopping.

Today, I came in after work, dropped my work bag and picked up a carrier bag on donatons plus another two of clean, worn-out textiles only fit to go for ragging, and labelled as such. Carried them the half-mile down to the chazzer.

I've also used by wally-trolley with heavier bags, and run my pushbike to the HWRC most weeks. You can freecycle bulky stuff (got rid of a sofa and a mattress like this) and charities will sometimes collect in bulk.

If you have a suitable place facing the street, you can always put out a box with a note FREE - help yourself, and it'll walk.

Don't you get charity bags through the door? Various ones take various things, the odd one or two will take bric-a-brac.

Check your kerbside collection too. Ours will take clothes and shoes.

I sometimes see people do a yard sale, the American equivalent of a car -boot.
