I dont know if the OR may insist you claim what you are due but I used to work with housing/council tax benefit and they certainly did.

Say that you put in a claim for HB and were not claiming tax credit (family credit as was) or a private pension - they would take it that you were. May be the same now.

However that is probably because it kept the government figures "straight" as to who was claiming what and why.

I quick call to them (anon if you wish) should solve it.

  • Sometimes in life you need to swallow your pride. I remember when my mum was alive and entitled to lots more than she was getting. It was a case of not wanting anyone to paw over her income and savings etc. She lost out. Don't let pride take the place of what you need and have paid for in the long term.

The thing is, now £20 might not make much difference, as all your money is being swallowed up by your debts, but if you go bankrupt and have a fresh start, it is an extra £20 per week, £80 per month(+) towards, your car, food, toiletries....whatever. But when it becomes cash in your hand to spend it is well worth having!
And this is MSE...if you make statements like... 'I don't claim benefits, on principal' people will swoop in and attack.
    Every penny counts!!

  • Just a thought but will the OR not ask why you didn't claim everything you were entitled to before you went BR. Its possible you could have avoided this situation altogether.

Brokenhearted.....see you have not changed. The OP will be worried enough without your 'helpfull' comments.

Pixiepie-just go with what you want. People on here will have opinions but are not as blunt as Conner. Brokenhearted....it defies beleif why you post on here when you are not/have no intention of going BR. You carry on with your dates/scrimping & saving-us who've had proper advice have gone BR-debt GONE! I know which position I'd rather be in...

  • I can't figure this....why is it EVERY post I get involved in with BH is pulled by mods yet she continues to carry on spouting her useless words of wisdom & her posts remain despite NUMEROUS complaints to abuse......

whats with abuse?? is she part of the team?? is everyone so scared of her for some reason? WHY do some of her pointless inflammatory posts not get pulled when it's obvious when reading she's only posted something to start an argument?

**and off BH goes crying to abuse...another post bites the dust**
