  • I've not had any problems from bailiffs or deductions from wages, and I think they've always known where I've lived, so I can't see that suddenly happening now ...

How do I find out about the council tax?

Contact the Local authority Council Tax department of where you were living at the time.
  • Yeah, but given they can then get a charging order against me, or potentially send bailiffs, isn't it best the council remains uncontacted?!

I don't see how else you are going to investigate the debt, maybe someone more knowledgeable can help.

Why not contact them with the attitude you are investigating how much you owe/ willing to set up a payment plan etc?
  • Just kind of bumping this because I'm coming to the end of my free month's trial on the three credit agencies.

I'm still no clearer on what to do going forward. No creditors have gotten in touch with me in the month I've put all my information into the two sites. I've put every address and every piece of information I could think of into the sites.

What should I do - contact my known creditors? Or just wait? In the spring all my creditors will have reached the 6 year period where they become irrecoverable.

Don't go looking for trouble, if anyone wants to chase up any of these debts, they will do, until that happens, just carry on as normal.

This :D - I presume the debts were non-secured? In which case and by the sounds of it you can pretty much forget them - just use any of the establishments you don't owe money too (eg: if you owe money to Barclays, don't attempt to borrow from Barclays).

If any of the old debts do resurface, don't forget that when it comes to your current financial status, you don't have to tell them the truth...you could always state that you are still in financial difficulty etc.
  • What are you hoping to achieve if you get in touch with them ? If they will all have fell off your credit file soon and will be statute barred as you have not paid towards them or acknowledged them in anyway for 6 years then you should just let sleeping dogs lie in my opinion.
