It doesn't say "free cake". It says "if you tell us your birthday you will receive a special birthday treat from Patisserie Valerie." - which could be an email with a printable voucher giving X% off when you spend money there.

I did get an email to get a free cake but it had to be redeemed quite quickly and its a free cupcake. When i went to the local p.v they didnt have any cupcakes

It's my birthday on Monday and they sent me a voucher for a free cupcake this morning! It's valid until 23 August so I've got a while to use it.

I had a voucher for a free cupcake and they didn't have any in so they let me choose a slice of any cake on display.
