I did read that, and i took it to mean housing and the economy.
If we're going to say this section is for any story that effects the economy we could start to discuss benefits; taxation; sport; the weather; competitions; motoring; politics; immigration, the Nhs etc etc etc absolutely every subject we talk about here in one way or another is effected by the economy.
It's just a pet hate of mine as i know it is with others when you go to make a post and check has someone else already started a thread. So you check where you'd expect the thread might be and when there's nothing there you start a new one, only to find there is something in a different part of the forum.

Well, everyone else took it to mean "house prices & the economy" thus we discuss both house prices and the economy.

I wonder what the price of dairy products in Russia is now?

Maybe they will build up their own industry, however I think there
are a number of factors of the than the sanction however it seems there has been
a fall in global demand, I guess the sanctions play a big part in that, China too
    is importing less I think.

it's around £0.45/litre. A bit more expensive in Moscow (as most things are!). Russia has increased milk production but they are also importing a fair bit from Belarus.

China mostly imports from NZ and Oz!

I didn't think banks were too big to fail, and don't think farmers are either. They have enjoyed decades of EU generosity and protection, and if dairy no longer turns a profit they should switch to arable or go out of business. You always see farmers moaning on TV if their particular crop has had a bad year, but never hear about the years of plenty. I know one who has retired early to Spain on years of subsidy, so no sympathy here.

I caught the snippet on the Wright show this morning where they discussed the milk price issue.

What a load of shallow tripe!

No mention of input costs, global trends, productivity changes. Plenty more info presented on here.

It all seemed to hinge on the sympathy vote for Farmer Joe and his loyal herd.
  • I'm afraid that i don't have all that such sympathy even if supermarkets are using their oligopoly power.

Farms are some of the most subsidised things in the UK (not something i support) and yet they are making a loss. This loss is a price signal within the market to either increase efficiency or decrease supply (farmers can look at producing substitutes).

At the end of the day we have a world quite happy to export us milk which can make a profit. Unfortunate though it may be, i certainly don't want to pay more for my milk when taxpayers are already providing subsidies via CAP.

What have farmers and milk got to do with House Prices.

What do house prices have to do with the wider economy?

Oil & Petrol prices are down too. At this rate those poor sheikhs will be forced to buy slightly cheaper racehorses. I vote we all voluntarily pay more for petrol to stop this outrage.
