I'm sure there is a discussion about them in the travel section (looking for the £75 one way thread - I think) seems to me that the views are quite mixed. Will definately be checking it out on the 20th to see how much the return filght and taxes will set me back - if its not to bad then I think I'll take it.

Seems like you have to first book the return flight and then see if you managed to get the one sector free:

"An economy class round trip (LGW-HKG-LGW) must be booked for a chance to obtain one of the 3000 free one-way economy class tickets on the O8 715 London –Hong Kong sector departing on Wed, Fri, Sun. "

I was just looking at prices for return fares - in march they have return fares for 2 adults and 1 kid for just over £550 (for all of us) to go to Hong Kong.

Whats the catch? How bad is the airline?

i went to HK with them last Xmas for £75 each way & taxes.

for that price you shouldnt expect much... you get what you pay for..

movies were old and not much choice...
    food was rubbish
drinks and snacks are costs extra.... £1 for a mini can of coke.. IIRC

Are the trolley dollys hot ?? ......NO

what didnt help is landing at gatwick at 6am then getting stuck on the M25 for 2 hours in the morning rush hour..

I will be travelling from heathrow next time with virgin - at least i will not be stuck on the M25 for 2 hours...

I have used Oasis twice, no problems. I couldnt care less if you get a better meal and movie on Virgin, I saved at least £200 on each trip.

The airline is hardly responsible for the traffic! And since Gatwick has excellent rail connections, driving there is unlikely to be sensible (unless you have some special reason like living miles from the nearest railway station).

Passing through Heathrow generally involves operational or security delays of at least two hours, so I doubt if you will gain anything. But at least Virgin does provide good IFE.

However, for the price of economy tickets on Virgin you could probably get business class on Oasis. And by all accounts this is a pretty good product, with seating the same as on Singapore Airline's old Raffles Class.

Air Asia will be launching their new long haul airline - Air Asia X next month, which will get you to KL. In my opinion, KL is a much better hub for SE Asia as you can get pretty much anywhere for next to nothing with Air Asia.

I've read that introductory fares will be less than Oasis, and if the airline is anything like its partner Air Asia, the service will be excellent (for a budget airline)!
