Ebaying - what junk to get rid of

I notice a lot of people on here make money by selling stuff on ebay. What exactly do you sell. I don't seem to have anything but junk. Also, I've seen people talk about free listing days - is this a regular day of the week or just sporadic. How much does it cost to list things otherwise?

I've only ever bought from ebay so don't really know how to sell.

  • AS the saying goes.. one person's junk is another person's treasure. Quite often we find that the things we don't think will sell go really well!!!!
    Anything worth a shot!
ther'es no free listing days but look out for 5p/10p etc listing days every so often
fees depend on the value of the item, how much they sell for and what you put in the listing.

Well at the moment I have childrens rugs, bongos (anyone got any put them on the questions I am getting!), a laptop, old computer games, phone sim cards, childrens toys, football boots allsorts.

My rule is I will list anything I don't use, all my listings start at 99p, if they don't sell I save them for a free listing day - if they still don't sell they get thrown, recycled or charity shopped!

I list over 10 days and time it to span over two weekends so it gets maximum viewing. Try to end in afternoons or evenings, mornings are the worst. Keep your postage rates fair.

I've not sold huge amounts but have sold books, DVDs, kids videos, unworn clothes & shoes etc. My best sells were an old IMac which I had down as collection only - got given cash for that one, and a bag from Jigsaw I'd been given as a present but didn't really like - that went for £50!

Remember as well that people collect the strangest things - have a look around Ebay at completed listings to see what's been going well recently.

I started selling all my clothes when I suddenly lost a lot of weight!
I then moved onto books, CDs, etc.
Have sold 3 cars on there.

There occasionally cheap listing days but they are few and far between and just end up with loads of stuff all on at the same time. you pay to list an item depending on type of thing and starting price - books seemed to be cheaper to list than clothes when I did this last week and then you get to pay even more money depending on final price. I've made a fair wee bit over the last few months just getting rid of DS old clothes, some stuff I've never worn and books. it's a pain but IMO worth the hassle.

I have trouble with clothes. DVD's certainly sell well. I've even sold used lipsticks - go well especially if they're a discontinued colour!

My best thing was a huge (11kg) crate of Lego - £127 + £26 postage!

I seem to have good & poor times - just made over £100 selling some Boots & Next sale bargains, am now clearing my wardrobe of the clothes / shoes / bags I don't wear or use.

Thanks, maybe I'll start with books and cds as they seem easier to sort out than old clothes.

I sold an old book on ebay 2 yrs ago for £299.00 , i found it in a charity shop for 50p , it was quite rare 1st edition but an ex library book which had stamp marks in it , I had about 25 bids in all, it got quite exciting.
just wish I had paid it off a debt instead of holidaying with it. good luck anyway
