OS Daily Thread Sunday 9th August

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

Morning all
Fish fed, hubby & I have a cuppa each.

Yesterday didn't go to plan, a friend of hubby's turned up at 8am with suitcase & dog having had a falling out with his wife, so that took a while to sort out, changing the sheets on the spare bed & getting some dog food. I only filled one bin bag from my sewing room as I didn't want to leave him alone to brood for too long but I did manage to hem a dress by hand whilst sat in the garden with him & his dog.

Hubby went to help another friend decorate his bathroom & ended up painting both bathrooms so didn't get home until 2 instead of midday as he'd planned.

I joined SW last week (one local group wouldn't accept me because of my dietary restrictions, but I have found one that will), so I made sure I had plenty of the correct food in, I then went to feed a colleagues cats/gerbils/fish & water her garden, only to find she's left me a bottle of wine & a huge box of Ferrero Rocher as a thank you! I managed to eat a nectarine instead!

I have a load of washing on the line & another load chugging away, the DW has been emptied, today I'm cooking roast chicken & HG veg for lunch, I'll stretch it to feed our temporary lodger by adding stuffing balls & yorkies.

I might make some brownies for pudding and I have lots of fresh fruit in the fridge.

Thanks for starting the thread off today Hester.

Good Morning everyone, another lovely day here, slightly more cloud than yesterday but 21 degrees already. Making ripe tomato chutney this morning as they are ripening by the kilo in the greenhouse in this warmth and we can't keep up with eating them. I shall, after this, oven roast any we can't use raw and put them through a sieve for passata and freeze that to use in the winter in flat bags, easier to store more produce that way. He Who Knows has headed to the allotment to lift more potatoes and help the next door plot holder to move his fruit cage to a different spot. We had homegrown raspberries for breakfast today, such a treat, as they are ripening well now too. Most of them will be frozen though until we get some over ripe ones (inevitable) when I will make a batch of raspberry jam. So a dust and vacuum through the house, a little ironing and the cooking are all that's on the agenda for today and maybe we'll be able to get out for a walk this evening, that would be nice.

Beautiful day here again its going to be a scorcher I think, I have the bedding in the wm and will do a towel load after.


DD still in bed and OH at the boot sale so all quiet here, we need to have a quick tidy round and then pop into town, we all need new undies so a trip to M + S today !


I am going to roast a chicken for dinner (I mistakenly bought three with my online shop ) and will do it with bread and butter and salad will ask mum if she wants to come up, I have some brownie in the freezer and some ice cream.

Very hot out there already. The thing I love most about the good weather is being able to have breakfast outside

Not up to much today, we might take a trip out later.

Had two dd s home yesterday and have spent this morning showing youngest some of the recipes or dishes I use/ make.

This morning was french toast with cinnamon and sugar and then we went through making a beef pot roast, yorkshire pudding batter and roast potatoes for lunch later. Have carrots, asparagus and peas to go with it.

Her laundry is just about to go in the washing machine and I will do a little bit of hand washing and show her how to do it.

Had a lovely long shower and shampoo and am having a browse before I get dressed and go downstairs.

Good luck with stretching lunch - I think my lot prefer the yorkies , stuffing balls and gravy to the actual meal.;)

Having a quiet day today I spent most of yesterday in the garden and was kn@ckered last night . The garden is looking good though and DH
Has made a planter out of decking to cover a rough looking bit of the patio next to the neighbours fence , hoping to grow something tall in it so it will give us a bit of privacy :T

Konmaried my wardrobe this morning , so have some stuff for the chazzer and some clothes never worn with tags to stick on eeb@y

Just making some coleslaw to go with lunch otherwise the cabbage and carrots may have gone to waste .
Going to prep the. Yorkie batter and potatoes then I might have a little snooze or read in the garden

Afternoon all. We have lost the blue sky and sun but it's still quite warm outside.

MIA yesterday as Mr TA was really off it - in fact he has been worse since the Octreotide scans for some reason. I checked on the internet for possible side effects but it says none known. I wondered if it could be due to the injection of the radio-active stuff. Anyway he is marginally brighter today but we'll both be glad when it's Friday and we see the consultant, whatever he is going to tell us about forthcoming treatment. It's the waiting and not knowing that gets me down.

I finally got to Dunelm this morning and got just the cushions I wanted. (Thanks CANDLELIGHT for nudging me in the right direction!) Plus some more items that I didn't know I needed!! Then popped in Home Bargains to stock up on birdie supplies, various tins and jars and a supply of toilet rolls.

DS rang yesterday to say they were back safely from Haven. He was full of cold and glad to be home for a rest! Apparently GF's boys had worn them out. Roxy dog had enjoyed her first holiday and loved the beach and did much digging. He said she wasn't a minute's trouble, despite her tender age (11 months) and had behaved impeccably.

Back from DD2's she cooked lunch for us today, so two days I have not had to cook. Towels left on the line whilst we were out, all dry ready to put away, brilliant, hope its fine tomorrow, its bed change day.

Putting my feet up for the rest of the day. Bye........

Afternoon everyone.

Just out of my pre-flight shower and drip drying. Been a bit of a slow crisis day with my mum. She wasn't too well when I got here on Friday and this morning she was significantly worse so I called the out of hours service (nhs24) which sent out a lovely doc really quickly. Of course the difference between a virus and a an infection is almost impossible for GPs so, given her age and health he's erred on the side of safety and prescribed antibiotics. Then I had to go out to get the meds and get her to take them.

It's all been a bit frantic but sorted now. I read in the paper today that the road I use to get here past Loch Lomond was closed from about 10.30am because of a fatal motor bike accident. If I'd been coming down then, as per plan A, life would have been more frantic.

Right, need to get some clothes on and then a bit of slap too as I'm going out in public.
