Homebuy Direct and Home Improvements

Hello All,
Getting conflicting info and was wondering if someone can clear this up please, Our Family brought a new build 4 years ago with the help of Homebuy Direct. 4 years on and we have children but the layout of the house now doesn't suit our needs. So basically we are thinking of putting a conservatory on the back of the house and knocking through the rear wall to open up the kitchen for a more family space. Questions I have please are,
1, Am I allowed to do this? Depends who I speak to they are saying no, and yes but the cost of the project will be taken into consideration of the final figure required to pay off the scheme?
2, If we do it anyway is there a penalty without speaking to them?
Normally we would just think about moving but it far cheaper to get the improvements done then move house to suit our requirements. If it makes a difference we are going to use funds by requesting a bolt on mortgage home improvement loan from our Bank.
Regards,
Carl
