Equitable Life Payment Scheme

Completely unexpectedly a letter was forwarded to my husband in the name of his first wife (deceased) dated March and saying that policy holder may be due a payment.
On the form to be filled in was an option of 'if the policyholder has died'.
My husband and I thought it was a scam to begin with, it seemed so strange, but then in passing someone said it was probably genuine, so he filled in the form, and we sent it back with death and probate certificates on 7th June 2015.
Since then nothing has been heard.
Can anyone shed any light on what it may be?

Glad they managed to track down your husband.
"With final tracing attempts now concluding, the government has therefore announced that the Equitable Life Payment Scheme will close to new claims on 31 December 2015."0 -
Well, £11.42!
Not sure it was worth the postage.0
