  • In a word yes! We made £400 just in one month! It all depends on what you've got lying around to sell!

I go in bursts but I reckon this year I have made about £500 from things that no one bothers with.

I've had a few lucky lots of listings - most of it is a lot of work for little profit.

I once paid a lady at a car boot £20 for two bin sacks of branded baby clothes and turned it into £200 one weekend.

When we moved house I emptied one large wardrobe of stuff & clothes and made £1000.

I have also sold stuff on behalf of friends and taken a cut - but you need high value items to make this worthwhile.

  • Hi there

I have had mixed luck with ebay - I did quite well with a few clothes items, but I find selling low value items a waste of time - for the time and effort involved, and the postage costs (and ebay fees), you come away no better off!

I have got to the stage now where I haven't much anything else left to sell! I tried car-booting the heavy low value itemss I had left, but only earned £18! Sometimes it's really frustrating! But we do try...............
    Lightbulb moment 27.07.06/Total Debt = 11054.32
1 yr on, total debt reduced by 1855.94 to 9198.38 (naughtily bought furniture on 2 yr interest free agreement you see)!

    Current Balances:
    Egg Loan - 3165.46 (6.7%) - 14 payments left:j
    M&S CC - 6286.00 (3.9% BT's/0% purchases)
    Norwich & P'Boro CC - 388.00 (14.9% as 0% expired)
Total debt at 19.08.07 = 9839.46 - Increased since last month as had to buy a car!

GOAL is to reduce total debt to £6000 by Christmas and be completely debt-free by December 2008!! :T:T:T

for some reason, im terrified about using ebay, always think its going to get lost in the post or i wont get paid... just me being paranoid. i do ok with amazon though. ive got 40 quid in the last week, so thats not too bad. again like someone else said, it depends on what you have to sell!

I have made a decent 2nd income on ebay, just look at what is currently selling on there and try and source some goods. Sell what you dont need, use or want anymore.
It varies how much I make, but was £400 a month on run up to last christmas, hoping to start that again soon. It is very time consuming and therefore you must enjoy doing it more than anything else.
I would advise to look on the dedicated ebay thread too.

Yup; made loads selling stuff that was just lying about! Time & effort but worth it if you're skint!

  • I've made about 600 sterling selling stuff on ebay in the last 2 months (but then I'm not working so have plenty of time right now).

I mainly just sell things I no longer want (clutter), jewellery I've made myself, or sometimes I buy things that are selling very cheaply and then sell them for more. I made about 75 sterling profit recently on a pen. I've also sold things for a friend.

It'll save you money if you list during the cheap listing days (especially more expensive items or items that are harder to sell). However, there will be more competition at those times. If something doesn't seem to be selling (after a half dozen rounds of auctions), sometimes it can be best to just list it cheaply so you at least get your listing fees back.

Some things that don't sell that well individually might sell better in lots. And if you think an item might be worth something, or are not sure if you want to part with it, you can always have a look on ebay first to see what they are going for.

  • Where postage rates are concerned, I just estimate what the postage will be based on the size and weight, add about a pound for packaging and round up to the nearest pound. Usually I guess a bit over, so I'm not losing out too much where fees are concerned. Occasionally I'll guess a bit under, but then on other packages I will guess over, so it generally works out to a bit more.

Also, if you're doing a lot of ebaying, it can be useful to find cheap postage materials. Sometimes people on ebay will sell lots of padded envelopes, or tesco's (at least in ireland) do pretty cheap 3 packs of padded envelopes in 2 sizes. Some shops charge a lot for envelopes, so if you're doing a lot of ebaying it can be useful to stock up on the cheaper ones.

Apologies for the essay, but I figured the info might be useful to someone. :)
