AS per point 2, would paying into a pension yourself (thereby lowering your tax rate) mean you could transfer some of her PA?

Hopefully someone here will know for sure, but with most things like say CB etc it does work?

As for splitting between S&S isas and pensions, it is generally a wise thing to do. But use up your HRT relief first?

    1. Will do some calculations as to the payback period for deferring my wifes pension and will make a decision accordingly..

Payback occurs 9.6 years after re-starting the pension. If your wife is in ordinary health for her age her life expectancy will be around 87, unless she's from a notably long-lived family.

Her extra pension is largely heritable by you if you are the survivor.

In your shoes I'd maximise the pension advantages before I put a penny in ISAs. As long as The Great Pension Liberator is in charge there's most unlikely to be a problem. If it looks like a Labour government next time you can just withdraw the money beforehand.

For modest amounts into an ISA, make sure you aren't using one where fees have a disproportionate effect.

But how can you tell? Many polls were saying Labor this time but it was a bloodbath?
