As far as I'm concerned if you don't physically enter a competition yourself and use a computer programme instead, that is cheating.

Otherwise how is it any different from people who manipulate the speed of an app to achieve a highest score in a game of skill?

It's not, both examples are compers trying to gain an advantage over other entrants in order to win, i.e. cheating.

But isn't that why compers use roboform? So they can gain an advantage over other entrants that don't use roboform by having the ability to input faster than they are physically capable of? Because to be fair they haven't 'physically entered' the data? Surely thats cheating if you are typing faster than you are physically capable of?

Programming something to enter isnt cheating unless the terms and conditions of the competition state that an auto tweeter can not be used? It's not cheating unless either twitter says so, or the competition says so. No? Most competitions on twitter have sweet FA Ts&cs?

Good points well made Miss Devil. :T

I am not saying I agree with them but it is refreshing to read comments well communicated on this subject rather than the spoilt brat approach we had earlier today :(

Yes I agree too, I'm not being told I'm horrible by any overgrown children :rotfl::rotfl:

Twitter actually says it's not allowed.

    ''
    Automated Retweeting

Automation of Retweets often leads to spam and other negative user experiences; therefore, Retweeting in a bulk or automated manner is prohibited. Automated Retweeting is permitted for apps or accounts that Twitter deems to provide a community benefit.''

Just because we agree/disagree on something does not mean we have to be rude to each other. :(

My way of looking at things is we give our opinion others agree/disagree and give their opinion, hopefully we learn from listening to others, then we move on.

If we fell out with everyone we disagreed with we would have no friends at all.

Manners cost nowt .... Very simple but very true ;)

I don't use roboform to fill in entries, or the thing that whips you through the yes/no sign up process after you've entered the mag dailies or any other computer generated advantage maker.

Comping, I'd like to think, is a fun hobby for most people who enter competitions, not an exercise in how to cheat the system and get one over on other compers or those that run comps.

Sadly, the ones that do cheat seem to be unrepentant, continue to win and make a mockery of any kind of rules that are in place.

Yes, of course it's cheating. I'm not quite sure how you can say it isn't, regardless of whether T&Cs state it or not.

No promoter/company who offers a prize wants that prize to be won by some random automated program. Competitions/prizes are a marketing tool used to increase brand awareness or reward loyalty.

If their prizes are continually won by bots they simply won't bother running competitions in the future.

Someone who enters by using an auto tweeter, isn't actually entering a competition themselves. In that case, if they win, then the prize should go to whoever originally developed the source code which allowed them to do it surely?

Isn't the point of this board to share competitions and answers to competitions to help each other to win and give an advantage over other compers?

By your definition, this is a board full of cheats!

I don't have a problem with this guy and I don't think what you guys do is cheating either FWIW. He's simply using the technology at his disposal.

There is a world of difference between sharing information and using an automated program in order to enter a competition.

This is an open forum, which is searchable on the web, not a clandestine way of gaining an advantage. You don't even have to register to view the content.

The twitter competitions, that are entered by using a bot which is set up to retweet certain phrases, do not require one iota of human interaction with promotors in order to win.
