Hello,
Sorry if this is already somewhere but I am extremely frustrated on how difficult it is to contact them and get some advice. I have been sent a letter saying I owe almost £600 which is not correct at all and they have not calculated my income correctly. Waiting time is 20 minutes on the phone, I have tried to find an email address but I keep going around in circles with this.. Could anyone please help?

7.45 am and you will get through right away - at least until everyone using this forum starts to do this !There are 10 types of people in the world - those who understand binary and those who do not. :doh:0 -
Ring them earlier, 8 a.m. or even a few minutes before that. Trying to contact them in any way other than by phone will at best take considerably longer, and you may never get a reply at all.0

They don't do that they work from information received from tax returns, employer returns, the DWP and probably others.
Check what they have sent you and try to identify what has gone wrong or at least have documentation supporting your claim that your income has been inflated. The only thing that is constant is change.0 -
I've been ringing them 10 times a day for past 3 days and each time getting the standard '20 mins wait' message. Today I finally decided to hold on and got a response after 40 minutes. To be fair the guy I spoke to was great and answered my query.
Not sure if they are short staffed or what. I had to ring them a few times a couple of years ago and never had such an issue.0 -

Yes, after the collection they were drastically down-sized: it never used to be like this. An interesting approach to reducing the budget deficit: sacking the people who bring in the money!0 -

This is where your MP can help. Put everything in writing and post it to them (they do not use email for security reasons). If you have not had a reply within a reasonable period write to your MP with a copy of your letter, and you should soon receive a response.0 -
Twenty minutes waiting time is a great improvement to my experiences in the early months of this year when up to an hour was usual. I have now resolved my issue with their acceptance that the £4,500 they said I owed being reduced to £650. This has been ongoing since May 2012. I wish you luck in your endeavours; do try to address everything with the person you speak otherwise you are likely to have to repeat the situation and explanation every time you contact them.0

Damn you!! That's when I call and now everyone's going to start doing it. :rotfl:0 -
And while you wait to get through, you get the irritating string of info about how you can find your answer on the website. I want a button to skip that.0
