it was on the solicitors forms under the methods they would accept payment. there was 3 options. cash, cheque and bank transfer (charges will occur) i can't remember if it stated how much but the option for a cheque was there. i don't actually have cheque with my bank so used my partners mums cheques and transferred the money into her bank. now she is on holiday so that money is in her account somewhere lol (obviously i can use other money)
Well as I said, you pays your money and you takes your choice.
I've never known any solicitor charge for receiving money - they do pass on charges for sending large amounts of money.0 -
Is this a firm of solicitors, or is it a "cheap" online conveyancing warehouse?
How did you find this firm?I am a mortgage broker. You should note that this site doesn't check my status as a Mortgage Adviser, so you need to take my word for it. This is a solicitors, we used this one as a friend works there. its wasn't our friend that's been dealing with out stuff though.:j0 -
I feel your pain, my feelings towards my solicitor so far have ranged from 'underwhelmed' to 'furious.' Constantly contradicting herself, insisting I haven't told her things that I did even when confronted with the evidence, refusing to answer the most basic of questions, never responding to emails. It's too late now for me to back out, but it's not for you. Change solicitor! I regret using the firm I'm using so much, but there was no initial indication there were problems with them. It was only when I called 5 weeks down the line to request a formal update on the purchase (which she had previously told me each time I rang about my house sale was 'proceeding nicely') that nothing whatsoever had been done, she hadn't even chased the contract from the seller's solicitor or applied for any searches. This was an 'urgent' case relating to a relocation within a tight time frame! I will be lodging a lengthy formal complaint but you still have time to change solicitor. Do it!0

Sounds like someone new to the job.
Does your friend do conveyancing? Why didn't you ask her to deal with it or ask her to recommend a specific handler to deal with?0 -
Yes, there are good and bad in any profession, but there do seem to be a higher proportion of incompetent solicitors firms', perhaps because of lack of competition and that they know your likely to stick with them half way through a house transaction, so unlikely to move elsewhere.
.
There is a plenty of competition. One of the reasons why the profession has become deskilled.0
