P45 sent without warning

Hi, I'm a bit confused and was hoping someone can help.
I have been on a on call contract for 14 weeks working a few hours every week and extra if needed.
I received a call from a manager at the place I work at to say she was looking at the rotas for the next few weeks and I wasn't needed but she had my number and she would give me a call when I was which was fine until my P45 came through the door with the date of her telephone call as my leaving date!
I've spoken to another manager briefly who says I may have failed a probationary period but I wasn't aware I was on one and cannot see it in my contract and I have never had any feedback good or bad or been subject to any disciplinary procedure.
Is this right?
Thanks for any help

If it's in the first 2 years (it sounds like it) there sadly isn't much that can be done, especially as it sounds like you was on a zero hour contract too. Bit of a cold way of letting you go though:T:T  :beer::beer: to the lil one

Thankyou dawyldthing, when I got the telephone call I was gutted but hopeful then when the P45 arrived I have gone over everything I did there to try and see if I've missed something but I haven't. I guess I will have to put this down to a life lesson.0

I wouldn't think you've failed probation. The manager would have said if that were the case. She's just sure she's not going to need you for a long time so is winding things up. You might want to get back in contact in a month or so and ask if there's anything going then.0

Have you been paid for any accrued holiday time that you haven't taken? It probably won't be very much if you only worked a few hours each week but better in your pocket than theirs.0

Absolute lousy way of being treat. Any company that cares so little to give the most basic level of respect and curtesy dosent deserve you. Push it back and move on, glad in the fact that that you learnt early to steer well clear. Good luck in the future!0

Check your holiday year end date and whether you have been paid for accrued holiday - at least at the rate of 12.07% of the hours worked - less any paid holiday you have received in the current holiday year.
Is there any chance it was an error? Maybe your manager told HR that you wouldn't be working for them for some time and they took the decision to send the P45.
Having a P45 also gives you the freedom to find another job and get your tax properly deducted, when otherwise you would have 20% deducted from everything you earn in another job rather than gaining the benefit of your tax-free allowance.0 -
Thank you everyone for your replies, you have made me feel much better about myself. I have checked and it isn't an error unfortunately I'm just no longer needed and I did get a percentage of my holiday pay when I was paid. x0
