Marriage Allowance

My wife registered 22 February for the new marriage allowance and HMRC said an email would be sent within 14 weeks when applications are open. Phoned HMRC after 21 weeks and was told the keep waiting. There appears to be no way of finding out why there is a delay or even if the registration has been overlooked. Does anyone else have this problem or know of a solution?

I registered my interest fairly recently, approximately two to three months ago. They sent me the link to actually transfer the allowance on the 17th July so they are definitely active.0

As long as it happens at some point during the tax year does it really matter when it gets done?0

I registered for Marriage Allowance and have just received the first pension advice with my new tax code. My tax code has increased by 1060 and my wife's has decreased by 1060 - so that's as expected. However I have received £88.28 more this month than I did on my previous tax code so I guess this a back-payment to the start of the tax year. Very nice

The examples given are of one partner not paying tax ie earning less than £1060.
Can the allowance be used when both are paying tax to move one partner out of paying the higher rate?
ie If one partner was earning £43000 and the other £5000 one would be paying 40% on the top part (1035). If this partner was given say £1400 of the lower paid partners allowance then both would only be paying at the 20% rate a saving of £207 (between them). Can this be done?0
