Patience is a virtue

I’m very new to this site, I have been visiting the debtfree wannabes forum for the past few weeks and you all have been very inspirational to me and make me feel like I’m not the only one with debts to face!

My lightbulb moment came in November last year. I was a young girl living on my own and away from my family striving for my independence. The bills and rent were manageable; however my existing credit card and loan repayments meant I didn’t have much to live on. Therefore more credit was borrowed and the interest free rates ended and it snowballed from there!

Living away from home meant I was quite lonely at times. As I already suffer with depression, this was made worse and my lonely evenings were regrettably taken up by regular visits to online bingo sites. What started off as a relatively manageable debt turned into £18,000 quite rapidly. I must stress that not all of this was gambling debts but I am embarrassed to admit a good chunk of it is.:(

As my mental health deteriorated I knew I had to take control of this debt once and for all. I sought the help from Step change and thankfully I am in a much better position financially and mentally. I have also moved back in with the parents which some might see as a downside but luckily we are a close family :oMy biggest issue is that I have little patience when it comes to things, I want everything done right away. I know this is going to be a bit of a long process but I take heart from all your stories and how quickly some of you are paying off your debts.

So… here I am ready to take on my debts bit by bit :) Any help/advice you can give me would be appreciated :D
