New Abbey charge

Abbey have now replaced their 'administration fee' of £225 payable at end of mortgage with a new £225 fee that they hope will dodge the exit fee fiasco by saying it is now a 'core fee' that can be paid on completion or at the end of the mortgage.

Here's a funny point... They haven't yet got the systems in place to take the fee so if you want to pay it up front you have to sign a form to get Abbey to contact you in 2008.

Love the emergency implementation that they didn't even have the systems in place to make it work.

I wonder if they'll charge any form of interest on the £225 if you want to pay it up front but can't until 2008?

:rotfl:

The fee is for maintaining, and general administration on the mortgage, or something like that

"A bank* is a place where they lend you an umbrella in fair weather and ask for it back when it begins to rain."

(*Unless it's Santander. The branch says they sent you an umbrella 3 times already and don't understand why you don't have it yet and want it back right now!!!)

Comments

  • Abbey have been an absolute farce since the takeover by Santander. The systems they have in place are woefully inadequate for the amount of business they are experiencing.

Not 'fit for purpose' in modern parlance

They don't "hope" it'll dodge the exit fee fiasco. It will.

Any lender can charge any up-front fee for a mortgage they like. This is no different.
