I don't have 10 years yet but I have more years than I can explain through NI contributions.
I do, although finding it has taught me that these Class-3 starting credits only applied since the tax year beginning in 1975:
Since April 1975, NI contributions have been credited to people for the tax year in which they reach age 16 and the following two tax years in order to protect their future basic State Pension entitlement and Bereavement Benefits for a spouse or civil partner (“Starting Credits”). The policy intention behind the credits was to ensure that young people staying on in education beyond the minimum school leaving age did not lose future benefit entitlement as a result. There is no requirement for the individual to be in the UK at the relevant age. This was primarily to ensure that young people being educated outside the UK were not penalised.

These credits stopped being awarded at the beginning of the 2010 tax year, but those which had already been awarded were retained by the beneficiary.

This is the best website for all EU based pension information etc. that I have found. world wide web Europa dot eu. Sorry for the format, as a new user it will not allow me to post a link (in case I am a spammer) . It is the official European Union website. I have found it to be most helpful in my claim which is the exact opposite of the opening post. I worked 10 years (self employed) in Spain and am in the process of claiming this small pension from Spain. Under the link for Pensions there is a further one to the section regarding claiming pensions from more than one EU country. It has a great deal of useful information.
Good Luck0
