50th birthday decorations

This year my mum is having a party for her 50th birthday, Im trying to be moneysaving about it, but have ended up paying for caterers, DJ and room hire so far  So i am determined to be moneysaving about the decorations, my mum wanted to pay a woman silly prices for ballons £15 for 3 in a bunch with some ribbon and a weight
So I have decided I will do the decorations myself, so could do with any advice anyone has got about how to do it cheaply? any website u know of that sell ballons and helium cheap?
I plan to get the balloons and helium, ribbon and make my own weights and do them in bunches weighed down on tables dotted around the room. Any other ways I could decorate the room?
So any help on making them, sourcing the decorations etc would be really appreciated.

Hiya x
I was just searching for some ideas for decorationg my husbands 30th Bday party venue and came across this thread - did you get any ideas? I am also looking for inspiration.
Thanks x Alison x:heart2:Mum to my little Daisy 3 and Archie 1.:heart2:0 -
I wanted balloons for DS christening. I found a shop which sold and filled ballons with helium, it worked out at about 75p a balloon. My mum then made salt dough which we wrapped in shiney sliver wrapping paper and tided silver ribbon from the ballons to the salt dough.
It worked out really well, I think in total I paid about 20. The salt dough was good as when the other children we got bored we just un wrapped the salt dough and they played with it.
So my advice is try small local shops, thats what we did saw one while driving stopped and arranged it straight away!!!0 -

I made three banners of old photos for my sisters 50th it was a complete surprise and many of the friends and family also got a shock as many featured too! I got the idea from my SIL who made a wall of shame for the MIL 60th!0

Sadly none of the banners. But what i did was get a few rolls of wrapping paper, self coloured sort of glossy, scanned and made blow ups of the photos, a mixture of sizes, and glued them onto the wrapping paper. I stuck Happy Birthday banners along the bottom or top and on one, there were two at angles to break the photos up. I had also got a few from her close friends which she had not seen and there were many embarassing ones!!! As the photos were on rolls of wrapping it made transport easy as they just rolled up, and putting up was easy two as we only needed a few drawing pins. I also put some balloons at the edges with curling ribbon but they kepk falling off!0 -
I went to a fortieth a while ago where they had blown up pictures of the guy from his childhood and early adult life, including pictures of friends, family holidays, school etc. They were displayed poster style throughout the room (tastefully) and gave a real historical feel to the event, as well as being talking points for friends and family.somewhere between Heaven and Woolworth's0
