Does YNAB have an app I could use as my laptop doesn't connect to the internet anymore.

Yep! I use the app when I'm out to register all my spending and check how much I've got left in my budget category.

So, it was worth cleaning and de-cluttering Darth Pantry.

There was indeed buried treasure in there: a pack of tea and a packet of crisps that had fallen out of sight and six tins of tuna which were hidden from view. Also found a random sachet of 'Chinese Curry Sauce', whatever that may be. Once I returned the tools to the tool cupboard (How had they crept in there?) and re-organised everything we have a sizeable amount of tinned, bottled and packet food and certainly enough condiments to last a year. Re-used some old boxes to store floppy packets in. This will stop them slipping off the shelf and down the back into oblivion.

I had to evict a few eight-legged creatures but I did consider leaving them and charging them rent...

:grinheart Dinner will be meatballs and potato dauphinoise using our home-grown potatoes and home-grown herbs. Will be using milk instead of cream in the potatoes.

    Freebie:

:grinheart £1 off Covent Garden Soup through the DailyFail. This is currently £1 at Asda. (Link)

:grinheart Teapigs tea. Frustrating amount of questions to answer before being offered freebie and multiple :spam: emails after. But some people like that kinda thing! ;) (Link)

    Offers:

:grinheart £10 off a £50 spend at Amazon. Today only. (Link)

    Hi Guys

Hope everyone has had a good start to the week, cant see any horrors from reading through :)

Ally - I am jealous of your bank holiday, but ours is at the end of August, hopefully will be a nice one. Well done again on your cupboard mining :)

Twiggy - One of my regulars has a pear tree in her garden & will bring me in pears to make a pear and ginger cake when it is in season. I asked her about a month ago & she said they were not ready at that point.

It has been a nice day. Takings were above ok for a quiet Monday in August. I have to say (and will probably kick myself for doing so, but bear with, I feel mildly optimistic at the moment!) if we continue as is, there may well be wages left at the end of the month. I think the affect of having 3 parties, which is essentially like 2 days trade each, has been good for the business account. I really want to think there will be. But its the summer holidays & I am used to really bad times, so I keep expecting them.

I was cross to see that Checkoutsmart have already taken down their 5p for loading a reciept offer, & all their freebie offers. So not much wombling today. I did get 40p in tips & son & I stopped on the way home & filled a large icecream tub with blackberries. I plan to make those into a blackberry & apple crumble tray bake tommorow.

Dinner tonight is YS mince sheppards pie, which I will load up with the last tub of cooked veggies in the fridge. And topped with the free potatoes from our neighbour, which are really delicious as well :)

Just heard from my accountant that I have a small VAT rebate coming back, always a nice thing!

Right well, just a short one today, not masses to gab about :)

    Bob

Now I've decided I'd be better off putting all my savings in my decent-rate ISA, all lumped together. But how do I know that £300 is for the car, and £100 is for Christmas, and how do I keep track of when I've spent it if it's all in the same pot? I'm using YNAB to keep track of virtual accounts like 'car' and 'holiday' and 'christmas' but in truth they're all sat in the same account.

Thanks greensalad! It does sound like a great tool for budgeting. MD does have a facility for setting budgets for your spending, but as you said it's definitely not set up as a budgeting tool.

I like the idea of being able to keep track of different spending pots even if they are not physically separate. I feel another addiction coming on - I am a total spreadsheet geek :rotfl:

Thanks. It was a productive day, bad weather though. Can't say I 'enjoyed' doing the 42-page long HB and CTR forms, but at least they're done now. :A I particularly enjoyed the multiple choice questions where the answer was neither (a), (b) nor (c) necessitating me to have to write long explanations in the 'Any Other Information' box. In the end I typed a coda and stapled it into the 'Any Other Information' box explaining that our circumstances don't fit their tick-boxes.

I also enjoyed calling the council last week to ask for my 'reference number' to be told by the helpline that it's on my Award Notice. I pointed out that I don't have an Award Notice as I haven't been awarded anything yet. The advisor told me not to worry I could write the number on my claim form when the Award Notice comes through. Please tell me it's not me. <Tears hair out.>

I like the expression 'cupboard mining'. I did look like a miner when I came out of Darth Pantry, all covered in webs and dust. :rotfl: That makes me sound dirty doesn't it. :o In my defense it's a really awkward shaped space to clean and 90% of the house is sparkling: it's just the cupboards that are needing a makeover.

    Evening all,

Just home from the cinema with dh (using summer rewards from Sainbobs, 1000 nectar points for 2 ticket :) ) We saw Mission impossible and it was fab, best film I've watched in a long time. We took our own snacks with us and didn't spend a penny there :) Popped into Co0p on way home and picked up some ys bread, cookies, coleslaw, and a triffle, two bags full and less then £2 had some of the bread with some oven chips back at home :)
Got a few bits done today, inc packing, prepping spare room for visitors, a bit of work in the garden to create a pathway through. So nice having DH home with us :)
Following :money: to keep us debt free :j
