Reclaiming PPI

I send a letter to the Halifax at the beginning of June 2014 to reclaim my PPI dating back to 1992 as no longer have the mortgage in the UK and now liv in New Zealand. They sent me a form to complete which needed to be returned within two weeks. It took 3 weeks to arrive here and I posted it back on 17th July. Funny that by the 20th July they had assessed my case and decided I was not entitled to anything!!!!! They would not have even received my form back by then. They also claim to have telephoned me several times. I ad one miscall on my NX phone and no message. I am sure I am entitled to a refund as I was told that we could not have the mortgage if we did not take the policy out!! Any advice re. what to do next????
Thanks

Not really. They often send out a form for extra info in case they dont have info on file. However, with a mortgage, they have a pretty strong case file. Although it could also depend on the reason they declined your complaint. You haven't said what that decline reason was but for all we know, it could be that you didnt have MPPI (maybe you had life assurance or something different).I am sure I am entitled to a refund as I was told that we could not have the mortgage if we did not take the policy out!
At various points lenders did used to insist on insurances as a condition of borrowing. So, if that is the case, your complaint would fail (life assurance was commonly required until the late 90s. In the mid 90s, a lot of lenders did cross sale deals where you got a special rate if you purchased an insurance policy)Any advice re. what to do next????
First thing is to be aware that most MPPI complaints do fail. It is the one PPI that is generally regarded as worth having and today, it is one of only two types of PPI that is still retailed. So, you need a stronger complaint reason than loan or credit card PPI.
Your complaint reason is weak. It either proves it was not mis-sold (i.e. mandatory) or if it was not mandatory then no evidence is going to exist to back up your allegation.
We also dont know why they rejected the complaint. So, we cant really offer any advice until you let us know.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
